"We
heat with corn. No, really."
(prev | next)
The
other day we were standing in our driveway watching a 16' tall tractor
trailer pull in to deliver corn. Lots of corn (5000 lbs to be exact).
Why? Because we heat with corn. More
precisely, whole shelled corn (basically dry corn kernels). We purchased
our Lebanon County, Pennsylvania house in 2001 and, much
to our chagrin, an inspection of the chimney confirmed we had to
ditch the existing coal-burning stove in favor of something else. After
a few months of research, we stumbled onto the corn stove...

Our Stove
We've been
heating with corn ever since. True, it's a bit of a mess (though not
as bad as coal or wood) and it does take some work (again, not as much
as coal or wood!) but it's 100% renewable in about 90 days, environmentally
friendly to grow and burn and, well, it's just darn neat. How many
people do you know that heat with corn in PA?
Since we find
ourselves explaining the stove over and over again, we decided to create
this web page... Click around and feel free to send any questions our
way! |
